Who We Are
The Brain Aneurysm Institute at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is a dedicated center for brain aneurysms and complex cerebrovascular disease in Boston, Massachusetts. As a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, we combine minimally invasive endovascular techniques with open microsurgical expertise so that treatment fits each patient rather than a single specialty.
People come to us with a range of situations: an aneurysm found by chance on a scan, a family history that raises concern, or an aneurysm that has already bled and needs urgent care. Whatever the reason, our goal is a clear, honest evaluation and a plan built around your imaging, your health, and your priorities. We care for patients from across New England and beyond, and we welcome both new patients and those seeking a second opinion.
Why Choose Us
Treating brain aneurysms well takes experience, the full range of treatment options, and a team that reviews each case together.
Our Approach
Because our physicians are trained in both endovascular and open surgical treatment, we can recommend the approach that best fits your aneurysm’s size, shape, location, and rupture status, rather than the one dictated by a single technique.

Your first visit is a consultation to review your imaging and history and to talk through whether monitoring or treatment makes the most sense. For an unruptured aneurysm found by chance, this is usually not an emergency, and there is time to ask questions and understand your options.
If you are weighing a treatment decision, a second opinion at a high-volume center can help you feel confident in the path you choose. We review outside scans and coordinate with your referring physician so care stays connected.
Common Questions
General information for patients and families. This is not medical advice; your care team can answer questions about your specific situation.
The Brain Aneurysm Institute at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Boston, provides comprehensive care for brain aneurysms and complex cerebrovascular disease. Our physicians are trained in both open microsurgery and minimally invasive endovascular treatment. To arrange an evaluation, call 617-632-9940 or email brainaneurysm@bidmc.harvard.edu.
Yes. Many patients seek a second opinion at a high-volume center before deciding whether and how to treat an aneurysm. Our Boston-based team regularly reviews outside imaging and provides second opinions for both unruptured and previously treated aneurysms. You do not need a referral to request one.
A referral is helpful but not required. Both patients and referring physicians can contact the institute directly to arrange an evaluation. If you have recent imaging, having it available speeds up the review.
A specialized center treats a high volume of aneurysms and offers every treatment option under one roof, including microsurgical clipping, bypass, endovascular coiling, stents, and flow diversion. Because our surgeons perform both open and catheter-based procedures, the recommendation is matched to your aneurysm rather than limited to one technique.
